Thursday Treasures - My Velvet Throne Gallery

Thursday, September 27, 2012

Hi Everyone,
I've launched my Abstract Art Collection of paintings in my SHOP this morning.  Please come by and take a look at my online gallery.  I've been working hard putting a collection of art pieces together that would bring a bit of glamour to your walls.  To me, a good piece of art compliments the space around me and makes me smile every time I look at it.  I hope that my pieces can make you feel that way also.

If you're searching for a specific piece you may have seen in a previous posting and can no longer find them in my shop, it might have already been sold - but if there are any specific colors you are drawn to and would like me to do a special piece for you please send me an email

Thank you to all of you for all of your lovely words and support.
I hope you enjoy the collection.

Love & Cheers,
Kathy

How to Dress Up Your Dresser

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

My dresser is probably the first thing I look at when I get up in the morning and the last thing I look at before I go to bed at night.  Aside from having it just be a set of drawers that house my clothes, it's also a display area for my perfume bottles and some of my everyday jewelry.  So, since I look at it quite frequently, it's important to me that I keep it organized, clean, and of course really pretty to look at!

Adding the perfect piece of artwork can really help brighten up your day, or evening.  Here are some ideas for dressing up your dressers ;)

*All artwork shown below are my own and I will be launching 14 new pieces on my Etsy Shop tomorrow.  I hope you all enjoy it and I can't thank you enough for all your support.

Love,
Kathy

Lean it as a colorful backdrop...

...or use it as a jewelry tray!

Find a piece that makes you smile every time you look at it! ;)

Workspace Wednesday - GO WILD AT WORK!

Add a wild twist to your office space by adding some fun animal print accents.  Apply wallpaper to an accent wall, find an amazing chair, or a soft and furry rug - whatever your call of the wild may be, these office spaces are guaranteed to add some fun to your typical workday!
The Kelly Green desk just pops against this wallpaper

This wallpaper is the perfect balance of funky and classic!
Snakeskin!
I'm in LOVE with this office (Black & White + rich textures)
This room makes me smile
I know this one isn't an office, but I'd sure love to get ready here every morning!
I'm wishing for this chair in my office...

The Wild Side of Fall

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

Leopard Prints are back this Fall and although it can be a bit intimidating to add to your wardrobe, an easy way to live on the "wild side" is through layering a leopard print cardigan over a basic white v-neck tee.  Leave it open for a more casual look or button it up for a more formal occasion.  As you already know, I'm big on Black, White, and Gold wardrobe staples - but I thought this outfit could be great with another pop of unexpected color - Pink!  It adds a feminine touch to this edgy outfit.

Weekend Fun

Monday, September 24, 2012

I hope you all had a great weekend!  It's hard to believe that next week is already the beginning of October!

Here's what we've been up to...

Keira's been practicing with Erik's under younger boys soccer team, "The United Knights"- she just loves going to practice now.  My little girl is growing up so fast!
more painting...
Oh how I miss downtown SF shopping!
The City of Hope Foundation Gala was this weekend at the Marriott Marquis.

It was a relief to find out that I was still able to fit into these fun, glitzy shoes after having two kids!  I was so happy I didn't have to part with this pair.
We got to take home this lovely centerpiece from the event...I love the postcard!

Ahh...now time to relax at home after a night of standing in heels!
(This is one of my FAVORITE wrap scarves I had special ordered from JumiFelt on Etsy a while ago.  It was beautifully handmade by Jurgita in Europe. It's just so soft - I could fall asleep with it around me like a blankie...
...and I did just that right after Erik snapped this photo! zzzzzz...

I hope you all have a great week!

The Best DIY Necklace Display Rack

Friday, September 21, 2012

I've had my share of a number of necklace displays - tree branches, hooks, organizers, see through jewelry boxes - you name it!  However, no matter what I did, it usually resulted in an additional 5 minutes of untangling necklace knots before I could even leave the house.

In my opinion, this display is what I found to be the easiest, neatest, most efficient, and inexpensive way to keep your necklaces in order.  Accessories are just as important as your wardrobe - so, why not treat them like part of your closet and hang them up on their very own "hanger" hooks?

 Here's all you need:
Rail & S-Hooks from IKEA

 END RESULT:
$10 + No Necklace Knots = a VERY :) Kathy

Ryker the Striker's First Photo Session

Thursday, September 20, 2012

Time is flying by once again and my little boy is growing up so fast! Ryker will already be 11 weeks old on Saturday and at his 2 month doctors visit he measured up to be in the 97 percentile in height and 90 percentile in weight! Yes, he definitely got that from his daddy.
I realized that I wasn't able to do a posting yet on Ryker's first photo session with my talented photographer / brother, Ron. So here are a few amazing shots he was able to get of our little guy just a couple weeks after he was born.
Behind the scenes shot at my house
Of course Erik had to buy the 2012 Champions League Ball
I got this cute soccer bean bag chair at Toys R Us - it's a great prop for a DIY baby photo session
This is one of my faves!
I'll have to remember to have that one framed for him once when he get's his first office job!
My sister-in-law crocheted that soccer ball.  He was originally supposed to fit entirely in it, but since he was so long he could only fit his little booty in it! It turned out SO cute nonetheless! Thank you Z!
Yes, he did sleep through the whole shoot!
I can snuggle with him forever
Our All Star Boy
and here he is now at 2 1/2 months old....
... more alert, chubbier, and just chillin out and enjoying the new fluffy bed pillows!
(BTW, I'll be doing a separate bedroom posting on my new duvet set shortly - I'm just loving it!)

Workspace Wednesday: Green With Envy

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

I fell in love with this lovely green and white office space designed by Ana Cordeiro from Prego Sem Estopa.  I love the white lattice room dividers, it helps separate an area in the room without closing the space off completely - so, the room still feels really bright and open.
Keeping the same patterned wallpaper throughout the space helps tie the rooms together
This is such a cute little break room / conference area.
I would just love to sit in that bright and happy looking chair!
This framed black and white print adds a classic girly touch to the space.
From this view, you definitely feel in charge ;)
I just love the pops of pink accents throughout the room!

Monroe Lounge, San Francisco

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

It's been a while since I've been out and about in the city at night, so I was extremely excited to go out on Friday night with Erik to celebrate my cousin's birthday at Monroe Lounge located in North Beach.  The venue was just beautiful.  They had renovated the old Dragon Bar and transformed it into an upscale and glamorous lounge where Hollywood Regency meets Modern Speakeasy.  I think they did a fabulous job with the decor and the attention to detail was just impressive.  I've always been a fan of Old Hollywood Glamour and have always been intrigued by the Roaring 20's so this lounge was the perfect marriage of the two in my opinion. If you ever find yourself in San Francisco, I would definitely recommend this place for a drink or two!
